But Greg will have to make a choice….between the woman he is coming to love and the son he has fought to win his love and affection for years. But what their relationship is…whatever it may be…is forbidden and Greg has his relationship with his son to worry about. They both know what they have is not “right” but they are willing to cross the line because they know they have something unique. But what shocks her more….is the instant chemistry between Cassidy and her ex boyfriends father…Dr. Its been tough for her, but they have been together for three years and she never thought this would be the result, but they have drifted apart and both have changed in ways that just aren’t compatible anymore. The Doctor is a story about our lead heroine, Cassidy who has returned home from college and she has felt that it is time to move on from her current boyfriend. She definitely convinced me that I needed to try this one and as a fan of dark romance at times, I definitely found myself intrigued. I will say I probably wouldn’t have dared pick this one up if it wasn’t for the gal at the “Book Refuge” a romance tuber on YouTube. But I have found that I need to push and stretch my limits at times, and yeah you could say that this one did that but not quite in ways I was expecting. The Doctor is the first book of the “Nashville Neighbors” series and I will say that I had a blast with this one here and I am probably just as surprised as anyone because this is a story that definitely pushes my boundaries. This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.

The two sisters, Merricat and Constance, go about their days, but their lives seemed suspended in the shadows of events that happened many years ago. It’s unclear who is more fearful of whom - the girls or the townspeople. Here, two sisters live in a large mansion, estranged and distanced from the rest of the town, and caring for their elderly uncle. Her stories tend to be about dark, complicated people who do dark, complicated things. Shirley Jackson, who most people know from her short story “The Lottery” which almost everyone read in grade school at some point, has a particularly dark and suspenseful brand of writing and it shines in We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Hmm, I seem to have read quite a few books about crazy people lately. By Jennifer Marie Lin on Dec 10th, 2014 (Last Updated Sep 19th, 2019) What beguiled me about the book from fairly early on was the rise and fall of the rhythm of the prose, the cadences, the dance between duple and triple metre – as a musician, it’s hard not to notice this aspect of any sound that reaches the ear – but this was the first time it had been so striking. The siren-call of The Lollipop Shoes isn’t hard to fathom – a heady blend of the front cover’s design, the heft of the book in the hand, the feel of the pages – and I succumbed instantly. I’m late to the Joanne Harris party the book came out in 2007, and follows Chocolat, written in 2001 (which I hadn’t read either), so I have some catching up to do. This happens to me quite often – as a compulsive book-buyer, this voice doesn’t need to shout any more, it just nudges me in the right direction and knows that I’ll comply, rolling its eyes (mixed metaphor, but you know what I mean) at the inevitability of it all – but not quite so compulsively as with Joanne Harris’ The Lollipop Shoes. Some books call to you from a shelf that silent yet persuasive voice that gets inside your head and tells you that you want, nay, need, to read them. They alleged that the individuals responsible for this murder were overwhelmed by a lust for power, destroyed the evidence, and used their influence to cover up an alleged crime that rivals even the most imaginary fictional murder plots ever written. Having no court-worthy evidence to proceed, a few disillusioned individuals conceived of a massive propaganda campaign to undermine the faith of the innocent. Nonetheless An investigation was launched confirming that the rumor was frivolous, contrived and mean spirited. The Poison Conspiracy (PCON) sounded completely absurd to those who lovingly nursed the founder of the Hare Krishna movement through the predictable death trajectory that is typical when one's organs fail. Twenty years later a rumor began that alleged his departure was due to an intricately planned, secret plot, masterminded by his most trusted disciples, to poison him with an elixir of exotic heavy metals. The formal cause for his departure was a heart attack complicated by kidney failure and diabetes. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada left this mortal world surrounded by hundreds of his beloved disciples. In November of 1977, His Divine Grace A.C. While this is number two in the series (I haven’t read number one yet but I will be going back) I didn’t need to read book number one to understand book number two. While, yes, Mariah’s novel about Lexi, a youth center worker, and Dyson, a gorgeous firefighter with a wounded heart, is the epitome of sugary-sweetness, Hallmark movie level heart-tugs and a mix of spicy goodness, the story itself is complete and strong. Once given the chance I dove into it and finished the story in a little more than a day (mostly because, apparently, I need sleep.) Through my adventures of following Mariah I saw she posted about The Dating Dilemma being available for ARC readers through NetGalley and I immediately went to NetGalley and requested the chance to read it. What more could a reader/ wannabe author want from a fellow author’s page? She makes fun of herself, she makes fun of people who look down on romance novels and she tells the realities of writing and publishing books. Given how the real world has sucked the last couple years I was definitely in the mood for something sweet and, after having stumbled across Mariah Ankenman’s Instagram a while back, I found her to be an author worth following, not only because of her works but because she wants to have fun while writing and while talking about her works/ writing them. Let me begin by saying this: sometimes you just need a fun, light, cute story when the real world sucks. Publisher: Entangled Publishing, LLC (Amara) The Dating Dilemma (Mile High Firefighters #2) Plus, his relationship with his former assistant is more fraught than it ever has been - Robin is now invaluable to Strike in the business, but their personal relationship is much, much trickier than that. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott - once his assistant, now a partner in the agency - set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside.Īnd during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward: his newfound fame as a private eye means he can no longer operate behind the scenes as he once did. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. When Billy, a troubled young man, comes to private eye Cormoran Strike's office to ask for his help investigating a crime he thinks he witnessed as a child, Strike is left deeply unsettled. One morning, Pete rises and decides that today is the day for an act of killing. In Part One, "The Killing," Pete's wife Liza has recently been placed in a mental institution his children Joel and Stella are college students and his sister Florry is a would-be writer who lives on an adjacent parcel. He is owner of a 640-acre parcel in northern Mississippi. Pete Banning comes from a family that has farmed cotton for generations. It is the seventh Grisham novel to take place here, following A Time to Kill, The Summons, The Chamber, The Last Juror, Sycamore Row, and A Time for Mercy. The story takes place in the fictional town of Clanton, Mississippi, in Grisham's Ford County. The plot centers on the 1946 murder trial of prominent family patriarch Pete Banning, a war hero who has returned home from the Second World War. In addition to Grisham's typical legal thriller, the book was also characterized by reviewers as "a murder mystery, a courtroom drama, a family saga, a coming-of-age story," "a period piece", and a war novel. The Reckoning is a best-selling novel by John Grisham. And I am promoting as best I can the idea that it will be the Adams Library of American Letters, and it will be a library open to visitors in a garden. In other words, it should be modest in size. I think it ought to be 18th Century in scale. "I think it should not be another marble tomb or obelisk, and I don't think it should try to rival either the Washington Monument or the Lincoln Memorial or the Jefferson Memorial in scale. T20:25:00-04:00 During a 2005 Q&A interview to discuss his book "1776," David McCullough spoke about what a memorial to John Adams should look like. They dared to play the rebellious villains on a floating international stage. Pirates challenged and subverted prevailing conventions of race, class, gender, and nationality, posing a radical democratic challenge to the society they left behind. At their best, pirates constructed their own distinctive egalitarian society, electing officers, dividing their booty equitably, and maintaining a multinational social order." "This unprecedented social and cultural history proves that the real lives of this motley crew - which included cross-dressing women, people of color, and the "outcasts of all nations"-Are far more compelling than contemporary myth. Historian Marcus Rediker focuses on the high-seas drama of 1716-1726, which featured the dreaded black flag, the Jolly Roger swashbuckling figures such as Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard and the unnamed, pegleg pirate who was likely Robert Louis Stevenson's model for Long John Silver in Treasure Island." "This exploration shows how sailors emerged from deadly working conditions on merchant and naval ships, turned pirate, and created a starkly different reality aboard their own vessels. Summary: "Villains of All Nations explores the Golden Age of Atlantic piracy and the infamous generation whose images underlie our modern, romanticized view of pirates. |
